Crucible 8 Personal Studio Design
For starters, we've moved the control panel from its traditional position on the front of the furnace and relocated it to the side. This design leaves the front clear of obstructions for easier and less anxious operation. It also helps to get the controls out harms way. You'll find the addition of the Swing View controller mount a welcome feature. The Swing View allows you to set the viewing and programming angle of the electronics to your taste. As you can see from the image we have a very beefy lid handle. It's strong and easy to grasp. It's also positioned well away from the lid for easy gloved hand operation. Our Crucible 8 is supplied with a 2" fiberboard baffle. This baffle is placed at the top of the firing chamber and helps to keep the heat in the chamber when the lid is opened for operation. You'll need to cut the fiberboard to allow access to your crucible. It's simple so fear not! |

Crucible 8 Features
Rampmaster w/ Express Mode Controller The Rampmaster temperature control was designed exclusively for glass work. Crucible work demands hours of holding at temperature. The Rampmaster allows for up to 100 hours of hold time per segment with a total of 32 possible segments. That's a lot of available hold time! The Rampmaster has proven itself for 10+ years. It's solid, trouble- free control made exclusively for Evenheat by Bartlett Instrument Company. |

Crucible 8 Features Side Mounted Control Panel with Swing View Our offset, side mounted control panel clears the front of the furnace of any obstructions. You'll be working with this furnace and the last thing you'll need to worry about is trying to avoid the electronics. This offset placement has the added benefit of keeping the controls away from the molten glass as it's pulled form the crucible. The side mounted controls feature our Swing View control option as standard equipment. The swing view is a pivoting control enclosure that allows the user to adjust the viewing and programming angle of the Rampmaster to a comfortable position. |

Crucible 8 Features Massive Bar Handle You need to operate the furnace with some degree of ease. Asking you to grab a handle of inadequate size and design isn't doing you any favors. The lid handle on the Crucible 8 was designed to protrude from the lid with some distance and to be wide enough to allow for easy gloved hand operation. You won't struggle to get your hand around this handle. |

Crucible 8 Features Full Stainless Jacket Multi-section kilns are designed to lower production costs for the kiln manufacturer. It's a worthy goal but it comes at the cost of kiln quality. It’s a trade off we’re not willing to make. We build our kilns with full stainless jackets from top to bottom. Full jackets mean absolutely solid, life extending construction. There are no leaks, no shifting, no buckles and no weakness. Insist on Full Stainless Jackets for true build quality. We do build a single "Maintenance Line" on the Crucible 8. The Maintenance Line is a single split in the stainless jacket held in place with stainless steel plates and screws, we do not use buckles. This design offers easy access for bottom replacement yet carries forward the reliability and strength of the full stainless jacket. |

Crucible 8 Features Maintenance Line The Crucible 8 features a "Maintenance Line". The Maintenance Line is a split in the jacket that allows the floor section to be easily removed in the event of crucible failure. The Maintenance Line is held securely in place through the use of stainless steel plates and screws. Simply remove the screws and separate the sections for maintenance. We do not use buckles to hold the sections together as they tend to loosen and allow for shifting during loading and unloading. |

Crucible 8 Features Removable/Replaceable Bottom Section In the event of crucible failure the bottom section of the Crucible 8 may be easily removed and replaced without having to tear the Crucible 8 apart. Simply remove the stainless plates holding the sections together and replace. We hope it never happens but, if it does, the repair is simple and easy. |

Crucible 8 Features Corner Mounting Technique The corners of the kiln body and lid provide excellent strength for mounting. The flat sides of the kiln don’t offer this strength, especially on oval shaped kilns. We install our load bearing hinge and lid handle brackets on these corners for this reason. Longer life, high reliability: solid design makes a difference.

Crucible 8 Features "False Top" Baffle To help keep the heat in the firing chamber as the lid is opened we have provided a removable, upper baffle. Your crucible will protrude though this baffle offering you access to your glass while helping to reduce temperature loss while gathering. The baffle is supplied without hole for the crucible. It's easy to cut. |

Crucible 8 Features Power Interrupt Switch The Crucible 8 is stock equipped with the Power Interrupt (a.k.a. door switch). The Power Interrupt automatically removes power from all heating elements as the door is opened and reapplies power as the door is closed. The switch used for this feature is a true safety switch and is designed specifically for safety applications. The choice of this switch adds an additional level of safety and security not found in ordinary “safety” switches. |

Crucible 8 Features Special High-Cycle Contactors Crucible work requires holding at temperature for long periods. During this time the controls are constantly cycling on and off. It's very demanding and will destroy standard contactors (relays) in short order. The Crucible 8 is designed with high-cycle, mercury contactors built to withstand the failure-free needs of crucible work. They're tough, silent workhorses that just keep going. |
