Features & Design
The Hot Box design is unique from all other designs in that it allows the artist to completely separate the lid and floor from the firing chamber. Everything lifts off and sets back on with ease. There are no buckles to operate, no blind positioning and no heavy brick lid to manage. It’s an old school way of operation that remains the preferred method of many.
The Hot Box is fitted with 6 large handles for easy and confident handling.
The pyrometer on the Hot Box is attached directly to the control panel. Unlike table top pyrometers, our attached pyrometer stays out of the way. There are no wires to avoid or get tangled in, it won't fall off the table, it's always in the same place and it never needs batteries.
The Hot Box operates using standard, North American household voltage and is equipped with a standard North American household plug. We do offer the Hot Box in various global designs and fit these units with country specific cables and plugs.
The Hot Box is equipped with an infinite switch for temperature regulation. It sets from low to high and all points in between. It's very easy to use. We've also included a pilot light that illuminates whenever the switch is turned on.
The lid and floor of the Hot Box are constructed of refractory fiber. This material lowers the weight of the Hot Box which makes moving it around very easy. Teaching studios, instructors and those with limited space will appreciate this.
The Hot Box is available with our optional Viewing Window. The viewing window offers a full view of the entire floor of the Hot Box. You can see from corner to corner and edge to edge. Especially great for glass work. It's an option you're sure to love.
We recommend using a shelf for all firings in the Hot Box. The Hot Box uses a 5.25” square shelf. Keep in mind that the shelf must be primed before use. Unlike typical shelves, the Hot Box shelf is designed to sit directly on the kiln floor without the use of posts.
The Hot Box is capable of all firings up to 1800°F (982°C). Acceptable materials include glass, metal clays, metal processing, low fire ceramics, enamels and china paint.
