GTS 28

The GTS 28 is our largest square-shaped top-loading glass kiln and combines the speed of fiber and the annealing properties of firebrick to create the finest large studio kiln available.

The firing chamber is sized to fit our 24" X 24" easy to handle shelf. The lid is constructed of fiber for speed and light weight. The chamber is constructed of firebrick that results in a smooth heat up and beautiful annealing. Exterior lines are attractive with a feel that fits your style.

The GTS 28 is designed for glass fusing, slumping, draping casting and any other glass work up to 1800°F.

Pair up our Quiet Drive Solid State relay system with our TAP II or Icon+ controls and enjoy the performance Evenheat is known for.

Form meets function as the GTS 28 fits your glass, your studio and your style.

Features

Fiber Lid

The lid of the GTS 28 is constructed of a fiber material that provides excellent thermal properties along with light weight. This design allows the heating elements to be positioned on the surface for maximum heat transfer and firing efficiency.

The fiber chosen for the lid is an extremely low-shot material. The surface is then covered with a no-shot fiber sheet. These two materials combine to create a lighter weight lid while severely limiting debris from the lid falling onto the glass. Very nice.

Top Load

The GTS 28 is a top loading design and offers a chamber 28" wide x 28" long x 13.5" deep. The rim of the chamber is 32" off the floor which is at waist height or lower making it very easy to load and position your glass.

Fiber and Firebrick Design

The GTS 28 is constructed of both fiber and firebrick.

The entire lid of the GTS 28 is constructed of fiber to reduce the overall weight of the lid as well as severely limiting lid debris.

The walls and floor are made of firebrick which is desired in a glass kiln as it stores heat in the beginning of the firing which acts to smooth out temperature swings. It then releases heat slowly at the completion of the firing resulting in very effective annealing. It's just beautiful.

The GTS 28, like the related Studio Pro models, artfully combines two great materials to produce one of the best glass kiln designs out there.

Swing View Equipped

GTS 28 temperature controls are fitted to our Swing View Adjustable Enclosure.

The swing view is a pivoting, swing-up enclosure that allows you to rotate the control to a comfortable viewing and programming angle. Once you're done, lay it back down to see it from across your studio. It's that simple.

The swing view pairs well with touchscreen controls like the TAP II, Icon+ and Icon as viewing angle can be perfectly aligned. You'll love it.

2 Position Lid Vent

The GTS 28 is equipped with a 2 position lid vent.

The lower vent position props the lid by about an inch. Perfect for venting off adhesives and other low temperature binding materials.

The upper vent position props the lid by about 4 inches. Perfect for speeding up the cooling process.

Relay Access Port

The GTS 28 incorporates our Relay Access Port for simple, no-panel-off relay replacement.

Simply remove the access plate to gain access to the mechanical relays. There's no need to remove the control panel and dig into the internal wiring. It's absolutely simple and effective and all it takes is a screwdriver!

It's a given that mechanical relays will fail at some point. This relay access port really comes in handy when they do.

Maintenance Parts Tag

To assist you in replacing worn items we have included a maintenance parts tag on the GTS 28 indicating the proper Evenheat part numbers for anticipated maintenance items.

Wish we had this decades ago.

Power Interrupt Switch

The GTS 28 is standard equipped with a power interrupt switch which removes electrical power from all heating elements if the lid is opened.

This is important for those who may access the kiln during firing such as glass manipulation.

Build Options

Multiple Control Options

The GTS 28 is available in a variety of controls including the Icon, Icon+, Tap II and Rampmaster 3.

At Evenheat we take the best control platforms on the market and make them even better by adding Special Limits thermocouples for precise temperature sensing and non-metallic faceplates for stellar Wi-Fi reception for on-line Apps. Visit our Controls tab to learn more about our controls and why they represent the very best that you can get.

Quiet Drive Solid State Relay Option

GTS 28 models are available with our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay option.

Our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay System offers tight temperature control, high reliability and increased heating element life. The Quiet Drive is arguably the best designed and best performing solid state system on the market.

Rolling Option

The GTS 28 is easily made mobile with our rolling option.

The GTS 28 base is equipped to accept our casters. No frame or extra hardware required. Simply attach the casters to the standard base and you're ready to go!

Casters are not factory installed. You will install them when you first set up your kiln. It's designed to be easy and it is. They can always be added later as well.

Voltage Options

Our default production for the GTS 28 is 240V, Single Phase.

We do offer to build in 200V, 208V, 220V and 230V by request.

All controls available on the GTS 28 will operate properly on both 50Hz and 60Hz line frequencies. To say it another way, line frequency has no effect. It doesn't matter.

Evenheat recommends that you check your operating voltage before ordering or placing the kiln in service.

Accessories

GTS 28 Furniture Kit

1 - Shelf - 24" x 24" x 3/4" (4 square feet)

4 - 1" Posts

1 - 6 Reed Haik Brush

1 - 24oz. Shelf Primer - Hotline Hi-Fire Brand

We recommend that you always use posts under your shelf to raise it off the floor. This kit comes with 1" posts for this purpose. You are welcome to any use size post you wish. We do not recommend placing the shelf directly on the kiln floor.

GTS 28 Shelf

Shelf - 24" x 24" x 3/4" (4 square feet)

We recommend that you always use posts under your shelf to raise it off the floor and suggest starting with 1" posts. You are welcome to use any size post you wish. We do not recommend placing the shelf directly on the kiln floor.

Posts

Posts are used to bring your shelf up and off the kiln floor. Generally speaking you always want to "post-up" your shelves. Posting up allows heat to get to the underside of the shelf which helps to eliminate and minimizes bubbles. It also helps to minimize differences in shelf temperature to avoid breaking.

We suggest 1" posts as a starting point. We do not recommend placing shelves directly on the kiln floor.

Haik Brushes

Our Brushes are a wide and very soft brush used to apply shelf primer.

Shelf Primer - 24oz. (Dry)

Shelf primer creates a layer of protection between the kiln shelf and your glass as it prevents your glass from sticking to the shelf. It is generally applied using a soft brush like our Haik brush. It can also be airbrushed on with the proper equipment.

Our shelf primer of choice is a Hotline product called Hi-Fire. It's supplied in dry form and is mixed with water for application onto the kiln shelves.
